About the Breed

So, you want a Labrador Retriever?

The Labrador Retriever is a friendly and high-spirited medium sized athlete. Dogs (males) can stand at 22.5"-24.5" tall at the withers and weigh between 65-80 pounds. Bitches (females) can stand at 21.5"-23.5" tall at the withers and weigh between 55-70 pounds. They are sturdy and well-balanced with short, dense, waterproof double coats and a unique otter-like tail. When properly cared for, their double coat helps keep them cool in the heat and insulates and protects them from freezing waters during hunting season. Are you ready for the tumbleweeds? The only colors found in the breed are black, yellow (can vary in shade from nearly white to a dark red), and chocolate. The Labrador makes a wonderful family pet, hunting partner, working dog, and more. They are highly trainable and adaptable. How much and what type of exercise will depend on your individual dog and its pedigree, among other factors.
